AROUND THE WORLD AND BLACK
Kay, the entrepreneur behind Bohème Noir – a new web shop featuring global and global-inspired wares geared toward Black women – already had a new logo. The problem? As she put it, the logo felt "old school," dated. This time around, she said, she wanted something that felt more "young, fresh, and modern."

BRAND IDENTITY

Moroccan mosaics. Indian mandalas. Black Southern folk art. Vibrant Caribbean colors. With Kay's vision board as a launch pad, I put together a mood board full of international art and design. And curated a bright, jewel-toned palette inspired by our finds.
SEARCHING THE GLOBE FOR INSPIRATION

BECOMING BOHÈME NOIR
A few elements emerged from our inspiration:
-
An afro'd woman, her deep blue hue harkening to Black skin
-
A compass rose, an international symbol of travel
-
A mandala, representing the spiritual aspect of Bohemianism
All layered to create something that felt both worldly and unapologetically Black.

"I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!"
Kay was absolutely ecstatic about her new logo. And with her logo versions – including one for use at smaller sizes and a mandala graphic device (see tote) – and guidelines, she now has a visual foundation to ground the overall Bohème Noir brand.
